At least six persons were killed and nearly two dozen others wounded when a passenger bus en route to Sarlahi from Kathmandu veered off and overturned on the road at Dumarwana of the East-West highway in Bara at around 4:15 pm Friday.

Police have identified two of the deceased as Chhekan Raut and Kanaiya Prasad Harijan, both residents of Rautahat. Five others are yet to be identified, informed DSP of Armed Police Force (APF), Chiranjibi Kunwar from Bara.

Police also informed that the condition of 12 passengers is critical. All injured passengers are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Nijgadh and the Narayani Sub-regional Hospital in Birgunj.

Preliminary reports indicted that the bus met with the accident when the driver lost control due to excessive speed.

Meanwhile, as per police reports, at least 40 passengers were injured when a heavily loaded bus veered off and overturned at Pulaha of Mahendranagar-7 of Sunsari district, at 2: 15 pm Friday. Six of the injured are reported to be critical.

The bus (Ko 1 Kha 2248) that was heading towards Jhumka from Mahendranagar overturned in a muddy road when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The injured passengers are undergoing treatment at BP Koirala Institute of Health Science (BKIHS), Dharan and various local health centers.

Following the incident, Sunsari police arrested the bus driver for investigation
